Friday, July 23, 2021, 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM CDT
Category: Professional Development

Milwaukee Public Museum | 800 W Wells Street, Milwaukee, WI
Discussion 2:30pm-3:30pm | 3:30pm Self-Guided Tour

Mandela, the international exhibition celebrating the life of Nelson Mandela, has made its United States debut right here in Milwaukee. In a special partnership with America’s Black Holocaust Museum, the Milwaukee Public Museum is hosting the exhibition now through August 1.

Join us for this special in-person Race Bridge event exploring the significance of Mandela’s life and what Milwaukeeans can learn from his example and dedication to social justice.  We’re having a discussion with the local leaders responsible for bringing this world-renowned exhibit to Milwaukee, and why they thought it was important to bring this educational display to our city at this time.

Attend this in-person event and enjoy:

  • A robust discussion about the life of Nelson Mandela and the significance of this exhibit in memorializing his contributions to social justice around the globe.
  • What we all can learn from Mandela and how the study of his life can support our own journeys as allies and champions for equity.
  • Behind the scenes details about how Milwaukee became the first American stop for this international exhibition.
  • Details of the partnership between MPM and ABHM and what both institutions have in store for the future.
  • Complimentary admission to the exhibition, a self-guided toured primed by insights from ABHM’s education director.

The discussion includes admission to the exhibit, featuring never-before-seen video footage and more than 150 historical artifacts and personal effects on loan from the Mandela family, museums, and archives worldwide. Capacity for this event is limited to 100 people.  Seating will allow for social distancing and masks are required for all attendees.
