How Myths About Race Impact Work Place Culture

Instructor: Rhonda Hill, Co-Founder and Director of Race and Faith

As companies are working to become more inclusive, organizational leaders are taking a deep look at company culture and the behaviors and beliefs that pose a threat to workplace equity. Part of creating a more equitable workplace is uncovering and unlearning myths that have long been accepted as a true and normal part of how your company manages people.

Many common workplace stereotypes have gone unchallenged for years in companies, creating deep rooted bias and inequity in the culture. In this session we will interrogate some of those workplace myths, how they undermine building an inclusive culture and steps leadership can begin to take to create a more inclusive culture. If you’re ready to become a myth-buster this workshop is for you.

This workshop will cover:

  • Common workplace myths about race and their threat to workplace equity
  • How to disarm the status quo of racism in a way that informs and empowers every employee
  • Explore how your own thinking could contribute toward making others feel unwelcome.
  • Gain the tools to critically interrogate the relationship between your company and communities of color, bridging the disconnect between solidarity branding and the way businesses truly operate.
