The Milwaukee Bucks are more than just a basketball team.  The organization is also a global business worth $1.35B, one of the most successful franchises in the NBA, and an international branding machine putting Milwaukee at center court.

Technology and television put the NBA Finals on the screens of 1 billion people internationally – essentially making Giannis and Lopez household names for 1 out of every 7 people in the world. B-Ball is such big business it makes you wonder: how do they do it all?

Join FUEL Milwaukee for a discussion on the Business of Basketball and how the success of the NBA is forging global connections for the Milwaukee Region and developing an international love for the game. Our partner, the Jewish Home & Care Foundation, has organized a special week of Israel activities and in doing so recognizing the impact that Basketball has had on the country and the rest of Europe.

Alex Lasry, Senior Vice President

Milwaukee Bucks Inc.

Alex Lasry currently serves as Senior Vice President for the Milwaukee Bucks, directing the team’s digital marketing and leading the company’s development initiatives. Alex was instrumental in the Bucks rebrand and the historic public-private partnership for a new arena and 30-acre development project in downtown Milwaukee. Additionally, he’s part of the management committee that oversees the organizations’ strategic growth.

Prior to joining the Bucks, Alex worked at the White House as the Deputy Counselor for Strategic Engagement, where he served as a top aide to the Senior Advisor to the President, Valerie Jarrett. Before the White House, he worked as an analyst for Goldman Sachs, with a focus on legislative issues such as Dodd-Frank and advised the company on the regulatory environment.

Alex was born and raised in New York, but currently resides in Milwaukee. He is currently chairing Milwaukee’s bid for the 2020 Democratic National Convention and serves on the boards of the Marcus Center for Performing Arts, Milwaukee Film Festival, Sojourner Family Peace Center and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Milwaukee. He graduated cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and recently received his MBA from the NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business.

David Bitan, Director of Competitive Sports

Ministry of Culture and Sports in Israel

David Bitan is a professional educator and community outreach leader with a passion for Israel advocacy, history and sports. David was the Director of the Israel Center and an Israel Emissary for the Jewish Federation of Greater Phoenix. David previously collaborated with both the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit and the Milwaukee Jewish Federation through Partnership 2000 (now known as Partnership Together) in creating unique hands-on experiences as well as engaging presentations to instill excitement, pride and action for the people and the state of Israel.

David is a former Israeli and European basketball champion representing his alma mater of Haifa University. David also conceptualized and directed an NBA summer basketball camp in Israel with former NBA Champion with the Detroit Pistons, Rick Mahorn.  Currently, David is the Director of Competitive Sports with the Ministry of Culture and Sports in Israel and is responsible for scouting and nurturing young athletes, supervision of activities of Olympic training centers and sports associations.

Torrey Ball (Moderator)

Assistant Athletic Director, Marketing & Fan Engagement
Marquette University

Torrey Ball is in his third year with Marquette University in 2019-20 as an assistant athletic director managing marketing and fan engagement.  Ball joins Marquette from Nebraska, where he had worked since 2014. In his time with the Cornhuskers, Ball started as assistant director of marketing and fan experience before being promoted to director of marketing and student engagement in 2016.  Ball earned both his bachelor's degree in communications and rhetorical studies and his master's in new media management from Syracuse. He played defensive end for the Orange and served as a team captain.
