SPEAKER BIO

JoAnne’s professional roots helped cultivate her passion for connecting people through creative entrepreneurship.  For 13 years, she helped run the Walnut Way neighborhood development group that successful turned around an underserved residential area, transforming blocks of homes into a beautiful and thriving community.

In 2009, she co-founded The Juice Kitchen, a fresh juice cafe in the Lindsay Heights neighborhood serving over 500 customers weekly. Now in its tenth year of business, the social enterprise is revitalizing a commercial corridor, bringing hundreds of customers to a neighborhood where traditional businesses have deemed it too risky to invest.

JoAnne is also co-owner of the Sherman Phoenix, a $4.2 million dollar entrepreneurial hub which opened in late 2018 and provides healthier food options, wellness services, and arts and cultural activities to the underserved neighborhood. The project restored a historic bank building that was burned in 2016 during nationally noted civil unrest. The Phoenix houses 40 black-owned business tenants and has brought 200+ jobs to the area.

JoAnne has been widely acknowledged as one of Milwaukee’s emerging leaders, receiving the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 Award and being named the Biz Times’ Community Leader of The Year for 2018.
