Darryll Simpson

General Manager, Milwaukee Streetcar - The Hop

60 years ago, the Milwaukee Streetcar ran its final route, due to the impact of the newly introduced diesel buses. Today, the all-electric Milwaukee streetcar, also known as ‘The Hop,’ is making a sustainable comeback with improved technology, downtown convenience and a year of free rides! According to Mayor Barrett property tax is increasing on the route by 28%

Join Fuel Milwaukee and Darryll Simpson, General Manager of The Hop, for lunch as we learn all about the newest addition to the downtown transit system.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Hear Darryll personal story of leadership and what it was like to run the brand new streetcar
  • What is MKE's future transportation going to look like
  • A behind-the-scene glimpse into what it takes to organize a smooth start of The Hop
  • Learn about the financial impact that large-scale infrastructure will play in the revitalization of downtown are neighboring communities
  • A lively Q&A session that just won’t be the same without you!

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Darryll is an expert when it comes to transit- especially the streetcar, a form of transportation that is sweeping the nation. A native to north Bronx, New York and a newcomer to Milwaukee, Darryll has been in the intermodal transit business since 1988. He began his career at the age of 22, as a conductor of New York’s Metro-North commuter trains. He has overlooked streetcar projects in many Metropolitan cities across the country, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit and now, Milwaukee!

Darryll Simpson currently resides in Charlotte, North Carolina and is looking to relocate to our beautiful City of Milwaukee. He is the father of two, a daughter and son. He is a huge fan of music, in his spare time he enjoys DJing and playing music for his family and friends.
