Darryll Simpson

General Manager, Milwaukee Streetcar - The Hop

Sixty years ago, the original Milwaukee Streetcar made it's final stop, leaving the road to the diesel buses that had become the new wave of mass transportation all across the US.

Today, the all-electric Milwaukee streetcar, also known as ‘The Hop,’ is making a comeback with improved technology, sustainable energy use, convenient downtown stops and a year of free rides!

Join Fuel Milwaukee and Darryll Simpson, General Manager of The Hop, for lunch as we learn all about the newest addition to the downtown transit system. He'll talk about his road to leadership in the world of mass transit and how he envisions Milwaukee navigating the new ways of getting around.

  • Hear Darryll’s personal story of leadership and what its like to manage city infrastructure
  • Get a sense from Darryll of MKE's transportation future
  • A behind-the-scenes tour of The Hop's station and see the street cars up-close and personal
  • To learn about the financial impact of the streetcar on downtown and neighboring communities
  • A lively Q&A session that just won’t be the same without you!

Darryll is an expert when it comes to transit - especially the streetcar, a form of transportation that is sweeping the nation. A native of The Bronx, New York and a newcomer to Milwaukee, Darryll has been in the intermodal transit business since 1988. He began his career at the age of 22 as a conductor of New York’s Metro-North commuter trains. He has overseen streetcar projects in many Metropolitan cities across the country, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Detroit and now, Milwaukee!

Darryll is relocating to Milwaukee from Charlotte, North Carolina. He is the father of two, a daughter and son. He is a huge fan of music, and in his spare time enjoys DJing and playing music for his family and friends.
