CEO & Artistic Director, Milwaukee Film Festival 

Jonathan Jackson has been center-stage at Milwaukee Film from day one.  Serving as both the creative and executive director of the organization, he oversaw the 2008 launch of the Milwaukee Film Festival.   Now attracting over 84,000 attendees annually, the MFF is one of the top 10 largest film festivals in the country.

Now, leading the $10M revitalization and year-round operations of the historic Oriental Theatre, Jonathan is clearly shouting “action” every chance he gets.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER 

Jonathan Jackson is the Chief Executive Officer & Artistic Director for Milwaukee Film and has been since the first Milwaukee Film Festival in 2008. He oversees operations, advocacy, and community engagement through which Milwaukee Film accelerates film culture and stimulates regional prosperity with the growth and success of a vibrant media and filmmaking economy. Most famously, this includes the 15-day Milwaukee Film Festival, which now attracts over 84,000 attendees per year making it one of the top 10 largest film festivals in the country, the year-round operations and restoration of the Oriental Theatre, and the efforts of cultural and industry pillars, Black Lens, Cine Sin Fronteras, and the Milwaukee Filmmaker Alliance.  


He previously served as artistic director for the Milwaukee International Film Festival, taught courses for the UWM's Film Department, wrote for the Shepherd Express, curated film programs for the Milwaukee Art Museum, and served as Program Manager of the UWM Union Cinema. Jonathan was named to the Milwaukee Business Journal Forty Under 40 class of 2011 and received a Harvard Business School Club of Wisconsin scholarship to attend Harvard's Strategic Perspectives in Nonprofit Management course in 2017. 


Jonathan is a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan who emigrated from Cleveland to Milwaukee in 1998 to attend the internationally renowned UWM Film Department. Today Jonathan, his wife Sara, and his cat Carmela are raising his two young children, Ella and Owen, in the Village of Shorewood.
