Venice Williams
Alice's Garden Urban Farm

Urban gardening has been on the rise across the country and has taken special root, right here in Milwaukee. Home to nearly 180 community gardens, 30 farms and 26 farmers markets, MKE's agriculture scene is bringing the city together through gardening and healing.

Venice Williams is one of those growers. Executive Director of Alice’s Garden, has spent more than 30 years bringing together Milwaukee communities and families through the power of urban gardening and spirituality. Alice’s Garden, established more than 30 years ago, offers 122 irrigated garden plots to the public, summer movie nights, yoga classes, reading circles, meditation walks, job programs for local youth, and hosts an annual full moon retreat for women.

Join and you can expect to:

  • Learn about her unique path to leadership and lessons learned along the way
  • Understand the impact that urban gardens have on communities
  • Explore Alice's Garden with your fellow FUELers
  • Enjoy a fresh and delicious lunch catered by Funky Fresh Spring Rolls

BIOGRAPHY

Venice Williams, a Pittsburgh native of African-American and Choctaw descent, focuses on bringing the community of Milwaukee back to healthier living, gathering locals to bond through the power of food, culture and relaxation. Venice has spent over 30 years in Milwaukee educating, healing and serving as the visionary behind many Milwaukee organizations, programs and projects, and currently serves as the Executive Director of Alice’s Urban Garden Farm.

She
attributes her passion for food, farms, faith, and community, to her parents, both sets of grandparents, and her paternal great-grandparents, all of whom nurtured and nourished her understanding of what it means to care for the Earth, its elements, and all of its creatures.
