Building a Relationship with Your Community
Instructor: Cortney McEniry, Community Engagement Director, The Milwaukee Repertory Theater

When it comes to community service, most people volunteer a few times a year with very little intersection between their lives, the work they do, and their acts of service.  But what if service could be more than that?  What if people could give back in a way so meaningful that it benefited them as much as the supported cause?

Join us for “Building a Relationship with Your Community” and learn how long-term commitment and strategic volunteering can foster personal fulfillment, refined professionalism, and enhanced community standing.  Using the Rep’s programs and volunteers as a case study, our instructor, Cortney McEniry will discuss how shifting intention and articulation of values can make any work more meaningful to you and your community.

Attend this workshop and learn:

  • the first steps towards becoming more engaged in your city
  • to align your work with core values and the needs of our communities
  • to choose volunteer opportunities based on passion, skill, and professional objectives
  • how to balance volunteering with professional and personal responsibilities

If you are ready to align your skills and knowledge with the needs and challenges that face our community, you don’t want to miss this workshop.  Or, if you work for a nonprofit and need help aligning volunteer opportunities with the growth and passions of the organization's biggest supporters, consider this a kick-start for a new engagement strategy.

***BONUS TOUR - Hang back after the workshop and enjoy an abbreviated tour of the Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Explore the rehearsal spaces, see the stage and backstage up close and take a look at the costumes and behind-the-scenes magic that help bring Rep performances to life.  The tour is optional and will run from approximately 1PM-1:30PM. ***
