George Hinton
CEO, Social Development Commission

Tackling tough jobs seems to be George Hinton’s thing. After thirteen years in healthcare, four as president at Aurora Sinai Hospital, George has taken on the challenging role of the CEO of Milwaukee’s Social Development Commission, the largest anti-poverty agency in the state.

Using its mission to “empower people with the resources to move beyond poverty,” George allocates the organizations $12M annual revenue to serve the 175,000 Milwaukeeans living below the poverty line.  SDC programs providing training, resources and emergency support to individuals and families throughout the city.

Join us as we get to know more about George’s unwavering commitment to improving our community and tackling the hard things.  He’ll talk about his road to leadership why he believes that heath and freedom from poverty are attainable for every person in Milwaukee.


George P. Hinton is the CEO of the Social Development Commission (SDC).  As Wisconsin’s largest Community Action Agency, SDC operates numerous programs to improve the quality of life for Milwaukee County’s low-income residents. Through five core service areas including employment, family strengthening, education, training and support services, the SDC serves tens of thousands of people each year.

Hinton has diverse work experience.  He’s served as Executive Director for INROADS, Inc – Wisconsin. He’s held several executive leadership positions with the Children’s Health System of Wisconsin. From 2008-2012, Hinton served as president of Aurora Sinai Medical Center in Milwaukee, where he managed an administrative team of more than 700 physicians, 1,300 caregivers and an annual agency budget of over $230 million.  He is also the founder of the Hinton Group, a healthcare and business consulting firm that works with private and non-profit organizations.

A native of Milwaukee, Hinton attended Washington High School. He is an alumnus of the Milwaukee Area Technical College and the University of Wisconsin School of Business. Hinton earned his master’s degree in Health Administration from the University of Alabama – Birmingham.

Hinton serves on several boards including the Medical Society of Milwaukee County, the MATC Foundation and the Institute for Leadership Diversity. He was a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.
