Two Milwaukee Restaurants Make Opinionated About Dining Top 100 List

Every year, Opinionated About Dining (OAD) generates a list of 100 of the best restaurants in America. This year, two restaurants in Wisconsin have made the list and both are located in Milwaukee.

 

At number 42 is Chef Justin Aprahamian’s Sanford. It has been called, “a marriage of Midwestern pride and culinary genius,” and “the best restaurant in Wisconsin.” His menu boasts local ingredients which “showcase the farmer’s bounty,” while simultaneously exploring international flavors like miso, tamarind, cumin, mole and kimchi.

 

Sanford’s menu offers a wide array of unusual dishes, from ‘Chargrilled Loin of Elk’ to ‘Molasses Glazed Quail with Cold Cured Foe Gras.’

 

At number 88, Justin Carlisle’s Ardent offers locally-sourced, farm-inspired dishes with a twist. Opinionated About Dining credits Carlisle’s upbringing on a farm in Sparta, Wisconsin, to the flavors he chooses to capture in his food.

 

One example is a dish called “Milk”, comprised of nothing more than a milk-based white bread, Munster cheese and hand-churned butter. Like Aprahamian, Carlisle’s ingredients are also sourced from Wisconsin farms, including beef that his father raises.

 

Opinionated About Dining is an algorithm-based rating system created by Steve Plotnicki, a former music industry executive turned statistician. Unlike organizations like Yelp or Zagat, which canvas thousands of not-so-experienced diners, OAD uses a pool of experienced foodies who devote a significant amount of their time and money in search on the best meals in the world. Participants are mostly attorneys, professors and doctors.
