Michael Wright and Ray Jivoff

Milwaukee's Art Industry Power Couple

C. Michael Wright

A native New Yorker, Michael Wright made his way to Milwaukee, WI in 1988. As an actor, director, teacher and arts administrator, he served as Associate Artistic Director of Next Act Theatre from 1997 until 2005. After almost ten years with Next Act Theatre, Michael found himself as the Producing Artistic Director of Milwaukee Chamber Theatre. His work at the Chamber Theatre has included over 75 productions including three original works. Some of the plays that he has produced include Lobby Hero, The Lion In Winter, Picnic and Dickens in America.

Michael Wright's passion for acting extends himself off the stage and into the classroom.  He has taught privately as well as at local universities including UWM, Maruqette University , Alverno and Carroll College. Additionally, Michael has taught at First Stage Children's Theatre, John Michael Kohler Arts Center, The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music and Threader for a New Audience (New York, NY).

Michael's work has taken him around the US and in 2009 he was recognized as "Artist of the Year"  by the City of Milwaukee Arts Board.

Ray Jivoff

Ray Jivoff has been active in the Milwaukee theatre community as an actor, teacher and director since moving here in 1988.

He received both a BA in Theatre and his teacher’s credential in secondary education from San Francisco State University. From there, he was hired as the first Education Director at the Skylight Music Theatre in 1999. Some of his major projects there include two touring shows, The Standard Songbook and KidsWrites,  the Stories that Sing in-school residency initiative, TeenWrites, an original musical theatre piece written, composed and performed by High School students and The High School Musical Celebration. He became Skylight’s Associate Artistic Director in 2009 and as of May, 2016 is the Interim Artistic Director.

As an actor, he works most frequently at The Skylight. He has been featured in several shows including Girl Crazy, Guys and Dolls, The Producers and Bellomy, just to name a few. During his work with First Stage Milwaukee, Ray appeared in Honk, The House and the Motorcycle, Bambi, James and the Giant Peach and several others. Finally, his work with the Milwaukee Rep included his roles in Assassins, A Christmas Carol, My Way and That’s Amore.

Off the stage, Ray has worked with several schools around the greater Milwaukee region. To begin, he initiated the Next Actors Summer Theatre for Youth camp and the Musical Theatre Company Class, a collaboration with Skylight and First Stage Milwaukee. There, he was able to help high school students at Next Act Theatre. His work all took him to Catholic Memorial High School in Waukesha for 12 years where he was the theatre director. Finally, Ray has worked with local colleges and high schools such as UW Milwaukee and Marquette University as well as Milwaukee High School of the Arts.
