Richard Yau

CEO & Co-Founder of Bright Cellars, Inc.

For Richard Yau, co-founder of the Bright Cellars Inc. wine club, the best sommelier is science.  Yau, like most wine drinkers, cultivated his pallet by rolling the dice and tasting the wines with the coolest label.  Now, he’s running a successful subscription wine service that relies on data to match his more than 20,000 customers with the wines they love.  Bright Cellars employs 35 employees and has raised over $2M in investment capital.

Have a cup of coffee with Richard Yau hear his take on how to run a successful start-up company in Milwaukee.  The native Californian, MIT grad and 2018 Forty Under 40 awardee will talk to us about why he’s choosing to do business here, and why he sees MKE as a hot bed of opportunity for entrepreneurship.

In 2014, Richard Yau co-founded Bright Cellars, Inc. an e-commerce subscription service for wine that tailors bottles to an individual's tastes.  Richard refined his entrepreneurship skills while helping NutraClick, tech-driven health and wellness products company, grow to $65M in revenue. During his time as Director of Business Development there, he launched a subsidiary LLC where he secured over 200,000 subscriptions and drew $9M in revenue.

Yau was recently named among the Milwaukee Business Journal’s Forty Under 40 list for 2018. He is a graduate of MIT with a Bachelor of Science (SB) in Management Science from the Sloan School of Management and a second major in music. When he's not pouring his soul into Bright Cellars, Richard loves to serenade his coworkers and play basketball.
